Every year, Ronkonkoma Middle School’s symphonic band members have the opportunity to perform “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “Marches of the Armed Forces” to honor veterans in the Connetquot community at the school’s annual Veterans Day celebration.

Mr. Paul F. Piekut (father to Mrs. Elizabeth Alaimo, RMS 7/8th grade band director) served in the United States Navy and played trumpet in the Navy Band during the Vietnam War. During Ronkonkoma Middle School’s Veterans Day rehearsal and performance on Nov. 8 , Mr. Piekut played trumpet alongside the symphonic band students, spoke with the students, and answered their questions about his experience playing an instrument in the United States Navy band.

Congratulations to all band members on their outstanding performance, and thank you to Mr. Piekut for joining them!

On Friday, November 8, Connetquot students took part in special assemblies, put on inspiring musical performances, gave dedications, made donations, recited poems, listened to veterans share their experiences and wrote letters to honor our community’s veterans. As a school community, we would like to thank our veterans for their service today and every day!
