Sycamore Avenue School’s Belief Statements We believe that: Children will learn best, when they feel best. Education is the shared responsibility of the school, the family and the community. All children have the right to a nurturing and safe environment. Respect for self, property and others is necessary for learning. A well-rounded education includes contributing to one’s community.

On Friday, November 8, Connetquot students took part in special assemblies, put on inspiring musical performances, gave dedications, made donations, recited poems, listened to veterans share their experiences and wrote letters to honor our community’s veterans. As a school community, we would like to thank our veterans for their service today and every day!

Each summer, Connetquot promotes a summer reading challenge for its elementary students through the public library. The building that reads the most wins an assembly, and this year, Sycamore Avenue Elementary was the winner! Steve Petra, “the school assembly ventriloquist”, visited Sycamore Avenue with his interactive show called, “Reading Rampage”. Throughout the assembly, Steve brought students onstage for demonstrations and challenges as they interacted with a wide cast of bizarre character puppets, including The Brain, Pierre Lobsterre, Demento and Gus the Word Bird. The show featured original songs and music, illusions and audience participation all centered in grade-level appropriate segments on vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and more.
