In our orchestra program, we learn a wide variety of music from various composers and time periods. With each piece, we learn some history and also how to create a picture for our audience through music. Our Beginner Strings receive one 30-minute lesson each week on a rotating schedule so students do not miss the same class each week. Beginning lessons begin the first week of October. There are no early morning rehearsals for this group. This group will perform in our Beginner Spring Concert. Our Advanced Strings have early morning orchestra at 8:20a.m. twice a week starting in September as well as their weekly lesson during the school day once a week for 30 minutes. This lesson schedule rotates so students do not miss the same class each week. This group will perform at our Advanced Winter Concert and our Advanced Spring Concert. Students in the Advanced Orchestra have the opportunity to participate in the NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival which takes place each spring. Participation in this festival can lead to nominations and selections into LISFA (Long Island String Festival) and SCMEA (Suffolk County Music Educators Association). The Connetquot School District offers the opportunity to be a part of All-District Orchestra as well. We are very proud of our orchestra program and our very talented musicians. I thank you for your support of our music program in Connetquot and I thank you for sharing your child with our program.
