Principal's Message
Dear Slocum Families,
I am so pleased to be the principal of Slocum Elementary School. Each day, the children welcome me so warmly. It is impressive and reassuring at what a polite and respectful group they are. They give me great hope for their future. Hearing the words thank you and please on such a frequent basis reminds me of what a great job this community has done in raising good citizens!
There is always something exciting going on at Slocum. We celebrate learning everyday in every way imaginable. As the year unfolds, your children will experience adventures in math, literacy, science, social studies, music, art, and physical education. We also teach our children good health and nutrition and promote a sense of pride for the community and encourage kindness toward one another.
In addition, we are most fortunate to have an active PTA staffed by incredibly dedicated volunteers. They are a source of significant support. We encourage each and every one of you to join our PTA and to volunteer just an hour or two of your time during the year on behalf of our students.
For all of the newcomers to our school, it is my pleasure to welcome you to your new home away from home. Slocum has approximately 400 students in grades K-5. We are a team of students, parents, teachers and staff members working together to make each day both meaningful and enjoyable for your children.
All of us at the Slocum School strongly believe that the education of children is a partnership between home and school. I look forward to working together with you to strengthen the home-school partnership and to make a positive difference in the academic, social, and emotional growth of our children.
As you know, I am always eager to demonstrate that my door is always open for you. Please feel free to stop by at any time, email me or call to set up an appointment to meet with me should the need arise. Several of you already have! I had the honor of meeting some graduates from the class of 1939 in November. They were pleasantly surprised when they found themselves and their relatives in graduating class pictures on the walls of our school.
Sincerely,
John Delio
