RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY



BEHAVIORAL STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES

 

Student’s Right:
I have the right to learn, hear, and be heard in this school. This means that everyone should respect and follow the school rules that enhance my learning

Student's Responsibility:
It is my responsibility to help to maintain a calm, quiet school environment. I will not create any disturbances that would distract the learning of others. It is my responsibility to always abide by the instructions of supervising adults.

 

GENERAL RULES OF BEHAVIOR

Report any violation of the code of conduct to an adult staff member

 

  1. Listen closely and follow all directions.
  1. Be respectful to all school personnel, teachers, teacher assistants/aides, custodians, cafeteria staff, and fellow students.
  1. Use appropriate language at all times. (No cursing, foul or abusive language). Threats of any kind will not be tolerated no matter what the reason and will be taken very seriously.  
  1. Leave valuable and inappropriate items at home. (i.e. fad items, headphones, trading cards, electronic games, IPOD, Nintendo DS, PSP, MP3 player)
  1. Gum chewing is not permitted in the building.
  1. Please remove all hats when inside the building.
  1. Please wear appropriate clothing (No shirts/tops with offensive sayings or pictures). Footwear that is a safety hazard will not be permitted. (i.e. rubber flip flops)

 

Consequences for not following the General Rules of Behavior could range from an oral warning to suspension outside of school.  Disciplinary actions will be firm, fair, consistent, and progressive depending upon the student’s age, offense, prior disciplinary record, effectiveness of other forms of discipline, and investigated information.  Please see sample of student behavior report.

 

CORRIDOR BEHAVIOR

Report any violation of the code of conduct to an adult staff member

 

  1. Students are expected to follow the General Rules of Behavior at all times.
  1. Students are expected to WALK QUIETLY on the stairwells and through the halls at all times.
  1. When walking through the building, please walk on the right side of the halls.
  1. Kicking, shoving, pinching, or any other form of physical contact which invades another student’s or staff’s rights will not be tolerated.
  1. Students should not touch any artwork, students’ works or bulletin boards displayed on the walls in the school.
  1. Each student is expected to assist in the care of the school by never defacing the building or intentionally damaging any of its contents.

 

Consequences for not following the General Rules of Behavior and Corridor Rules of Behavior could range from an oral warning to suspension outside of school.  Disciplinary actions will be firm, fair, consistent, and progressive depending upon the student’s age, offense, prior disciplinary record, effectiveness of other forms of discipline, and investigated information.  Please see sample of student behavior report.


Student’s Rights:
I have the right to attend an assembly or performance without distractions or disturbing behavior


Student’s Responsibility:
As a member of the audience I have the responsibility to behave in an appropriate manner.

 

ASSEMBLY BEHAVIOR

Report any violation of the code of conduct to an adult staff member

 

  1. Students are expected to follow the General Rules of Behavior at all times.
  1. Students are expected to listen quietly without talking.
  1. When shown the “quiet sign” students are expected to show respect by not talking.
  1. Students are expected to remain seated and focused on the performance.
  1. Students are expected to keep their hands and feet to themselves.
  1. Students are welcome to show appreciation by clapping their hands at the appropriate time. Whistling,

     “hooting”, booing, or stomping feet are not acceptable.

  1. Students are expected to listen when a presenter stands in front of them.

Student’s Rights:
I have the right to enjoy my lunch in a clean, orderly, and pleasant environment.

Student’s Responsibility:
It is my responsibility to eat my lunch in a mannerly fashion, and exhibit behavior that will not offend others.

 

CAFETERIA BEHAVIOR

Report any violation of the code of conduct to an adult staff member

 

  1. Students are expected to follow the General Rules of Behavior at all times.
  1. Students will be escorted to a table and seated by a supervising adult.
  1. A student may not get up from the table without raising his/her hand for permission to do so.
  1. When a supervising adult calls a class to the lunch line, students are to stand calmly in line. Pushing, shoving, and dancing while on line are not acceptable.
  1. After purchasing lunch, before sitting down at their tables, students should get all appropriate utensils, which they will then be expected to use for eating.
  1. Soft, conversational tones should be used when talking with friends. Yelling and screaming create an unpleasant cafeteria environment for everyone and is not permitted.
  1. All students are responsible for clearing tables and surrounding areas of all trash before dismissal.
  1. Students will wait in a quiet, orderly manner before leaving the cafeteria for recess or their classrooms with a supervising adult.

Student’s Rights:
I have the right to expect the playground or recreation area to be safe and fun.

Student’s Responsibility:
It is my responsibility to use the playground or recreation area in the proper manner, and to obey all safety rules. I have the responsibility to follow all instructions given by the supervising adult.

 

PLAYGROUND RECESS/RECREATION BEHAVIOR

Report any violation of the code of conduct to an adult staff member

 

  1. Students are expected to follow the General Rules of Behavior at all times.
  1. For the reasons of safety, students are not permitted to bring hardballs, or wood and aluminum bats to school at all.
  1. For the reasons of safety, tackle football and other body contact sports may cause serious injury to a student, and therefore are not allowed.
  1. For the reasons of safety, soccer games and two-handed touch football must be supervised by an adult.
  1. For the reasons of safety, only ONE person at a time should come down the slide with feet first!
  1. For the reasons of safety, students must remain in established play areas at all times. Running or chasing after students are not permitted.
  1. In consideration of others who may be working in their classrooms, and for the reasons of safety, students will stay away from all classroom windows. 
  1. For the reasons of safety, students should never push classmates down on the ground, or pull on their clothing.  Teasing and name-calling are cruel and hurtful and will not be tolerated no matter what the reason.
  1. For the reasons of safety, rocks, pebbles, dirt, and wood chips should not be picked up or thrown at any time.

INDOOR RECESS BEHAVIOR

Report any violation of the code of conduct to an adult staff member

 

  1. Students are expected to follow the General Rules of Behavior at all times.

 

  1. The NOISE level must be kept to a minimum, and be acceptable to all (adjacent classrooms included).

 

  1. Show respect for other people and their property.

 

  1. Use appropriate language with supervising adults and peers at all times! (No cursing or foul language)

 

  1. Soft, conversational tones should be used when talking with friends in quiet, organized activities.

 

Consequences for not following the General Rules of Behavior and Indoor Recess Rules of Behavior could range from an oral warning to suspension outside of school.  Disciplinary actions will be firm, fair, consistent, and progressive depending upon the student’s age, offense, prior disciplinary record, effectiveness of other forms of discipline, and investigated information.  Please see sample of student behavior report.

 

BUS BEHAVIOR

Report any violation of the code of conduct to an adult staff member.

 

  1. Students are expected to follow the General Rules of Behavior at all times.

 

  1. For the reasons of safety, the NOISE level must be appropriate for the bus.

 

  1. Students are expected to use appropriate language on the bus at all times.

 

  1. For the reasons of safety, students should remain in their seats at all times. No form of physical contact

which invades another student’s rights will be tolerated.
