Students in Janelle Gomes’ art classes at Sycamore Avenue Elementary School recently celebrated “International Dot Day.” This day is based off of the book “The Dot” by Peter Reynolds, which tells the story of a teacher who empowers a student to “make her mark” by transforming a small dot on a piece of paper into an artistic masterpiece. Gomes’ students each used a single dot to create their own masterpieces, each one unique and special.

Each day at Sycamore Avenue Elementary School, one can find Rachel White’s music students spread out across the field, singing and playing instruments in the fresh air. Fifth graders even participate in a special drum circle, which not only teaches them rhythm and cohesion, but also invigorates their spirits.
